MY CAREER GOALS – A THREE YEAR PLAN

After graduation (and after achieving licensure as a LCMHC and NCC), I hope to gain part-time employment in the private sector with a large practice; this will help me become established with insurance (I hear this can be difficult) and will provide me with a built-in support group, exposure to a range of approaches, and on-hand advisors/collaborators. Hopefully, through this position and within this practice, I can arrange supervision. Within a year, I would like to become certified in EMDR and in the Gottman Method. Such certification will add more tools to my belt and help me to become more marketable, experienced, and effective (I also seek these certifications because these are areas of interest for me). As soon as possible, I would like to supplement the aforementioned part-time work with work seeing individuals in my home office, under the umbrella of my own company - I have verified with my insurance agent and with my town that this would be possible legally and practically. Within three years, my plan is to evolve so that the majority of my work is at my home office and within my own practice. That said, I hope to continue to work part-time for others and to also work by volunteering with local organizations to counsel women who are suffering abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.
